Wausau beats Green Bay to HD newscasts

Green Bay

Wausau has news in high-definition. What's Green Bay's excuse?

MediaBistro is reporting that Grey Broadcasting-owned Wausau CBS-affiliate WSAW has flipped its newscasts to HD. Grey, which mainly owns stations in smaller markets, has been aggressive in converting its stations to HD.

A few stations locally are capable of HD production and broadcast syndicated programming in HD, but no one has gone fully HD yet.  So two questions arise -- why haven't any Green Bay stations gone HD news, and who do you think would flip first?

All the GB stations probably

All the GB stations probably have an agreement to hold off until the $$$$$$ is more plentiful. I wonder if the Milwaukee and Madison stations have local HD.

OMG Yes, Milwaukee and

OMG Yes, Milwaukee and Madison most certainly have local HD newscasts. WITI and WTMJ in Milwaukee both broadcast their news in HD. In Madison, WISC, WMTV, and WKOW all broadcast their news in HD. Green Bay's stations have absolutely no excuse for not broadcasting news in HD. In addition, another Wausau station is upgrading to HD news shortly -- WAOW. NO EXCUSE, GB.

It's pathetic how Titletown

It's pathetic how Titletown USA, home of the Super Bowl champs, can't even get a station that broadcasts its news in HD. It would be like if Minneapolis or Detroit didn't have HD news. Instead, a city like Wausau gets HD news before a city with an NFL team. Wow.

If a station DID flip, it would probably be WFRV and WJMN -- since the stations are being bought by Nexstar, there is hope! Nexstar might want HD news in the U.P. to get more viewers than WLUC, so therefore both might switch. These stations were the only ones Liberty Media owned, and it seems like they neglected them. Let's hope for a better future with Nexstar! :)
