Time Warner Cable launching live-streaming cable iPad app for the home

Time Warner is trumpeting the launch of their new iPad app today, saying they're the first to offer a live streaming TV app (though DISH Network apparently has qualms about that distinction).

It boasts a pretty impressive lineup of 30 cable channels you can view in HD on the iPad, but the big caveat being you have to be tethered to your own home's Road Runner internet to use it. This is akin to their short-lived HBO On Broadband program, but unlike the new iPad app, you could download shows from HBO to watch anywhere.

It more or less turns your iPad into a limited live-streaming cable TV when you're home. A nice feature, but hamstrung with the home restriction.

Anybody try it yet?

In light of Time Warner's new "modem lease fee" for Road Runner, will you buy your own modem?:
